Tarsar-Marsar Lake Trek

Tarsar-Marsar Lake Trek

The lake of Tarsar is an almond-shaped alpine lake. It is situated in the Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir. The lakes of Tarsar-Marsar are surrounded by Kolhoi Mountains. The two lakes are separated by a huge mountain that is almost 13,000 feet from ground level. Due to their same climate, physical characters, and geographical conditions, the two lakes are known as, “twin sisters”.
A stream from Marsar, filled with pure water runs through the Dachigam Village of Harwan in Srinagar. The stream fills a reservoir in Harwan named Sarband. The lake of Tarsar pours out its one outlet into the Lidder River.
The landscapes of the lakes that are filled with wildflowers add elegance to the whole valley. The valley is home to many migratory birds in summers including high-flying choughs, bar-headed geese, lammergeyers, Himalayan golden eagles, and many more.
The valley of Tarsar and the neighboring area Dachigam village constitutes the proper habitat for Hangul (Kashmiri Stag), snow leopard, musk deer, ibex, and golden marmot in higher reaches.
Tarsar-Marsar is usually known for trekking, but people who are not interested in trekking can make a visit and enjoy a full day here.
Tarsar-Marsar Lake Trek is one of the most adventurous activities that can be done in the valley of Kashmir. It is unarguably the prettiest trek of Kashmir. Almost at an altitude of 4000 meters above sea level, this trekking point is situated in between the snowy hills. The Tarsar-Marsar Lake Trek is easy-moderate as it only has one pass, as compared to that of the Kashmir Great Lakes trek that has comparatively three passes. Tarsar-Marsar Lake Trek is of 7 days, which would take you from the base camp to the upper reaches of the lake.
