Jama Masjid
This beautifully architectured masjid is located in the heart of Leh.
Jama Masjid
of Leh was built over a contract between the Ladakh kings and the Aurangzeb, where the two parties made a treaty over the protection of the Ladakh kings at all costs from the external forces.
This mosque took almost 1 year to build, from 1666-1667 the construction was ongoing in the mosque. The style of the mosque is the pure amalgam of Turkish-Iranian architecture. The mosque is the pure symbol of peace in the town.
The mosque had only one dome at the time of making, but before some years the single dome was reconstructed and a double dome was installed at the top of the mosque which added more grace to the mosque.
The mosque is only open to men. Women are not allowed inside the premises of the mosque.
