Lolab Valley Travel Guide – Kupwara’s Oval ValleyDuke Kashmir Travels
Lolab Valley is an oval valley in Kupwara district, north Kashmir, India. It lies about 115 km from Srinagar, enclosed by deodar ridges, with the Lavnag spring at Lalpora at its centre.
It sees a fraction of the visitors the central valley does. Most people who come are here for the forest, the walking, and Bangus, the high meadow beyond it.

Key takeaways
- Distance: about 115 km from Srinagar, roughly 3.5 hours through Kupwara.
- What it is: a forested valley with springs, orchards and the Bangus meadow above it.
- Best time: May to October; the road is hard going in deep winter.
- Time needed: a full day from Srinagar, better as an overnight.
- Nearby: Bangus Valley, one of the largest alpine meadows in Kashmir.
What is there to see in Lolab?
Lalpora and the Lavnag spring, the forest tracks, and Bangus beyond. Lalpora is the main village and the usual base for a visit; the spring there is the valley's landmark.
Bangus Valley, reached by a rough track from Lolab, is a bowl of grassland ringed by conifer forest and one of the largest meadows in Kashmir. It needs a full day of its own and a vehicle suited to the road.
How do you get to Lolab from Srinagar?
115 km north through Baramulla and Kupwara, about three and a half hours. That distance makes a day return long; we suggest an overnight in Kupwara or Lolab if you want time in the valley rather than in the car.

Insider tip from our local team
Lolab deserves an overnight. Doing it as a day return from Srinagar means seven hours in the car for three in the valley. If you only have a day, take Bangus off the plan — the track alone eats two hours each way.
