Verinag is the source of the river Jhelum. The spring is held in an octagonal stone tank built on Jahangir's orders in 1620, with a terraced Mughal garden behind it added under Shah Jahan.
About 78 km, roughly two hours by road through Anantnag. It is usually visited as part of a south Kashmir day with Achabal and Kokernag rather than on its own.
