Sinthan Top Duke Kashmir Travels

Sinthan Top

Sinthan Top is a mountain pass at about 12,500 feet that links the Breng valley in Anantnag district with Kishtwar, 132 kilometres from Srinagar. Snow lies on the crest for most of the year, and even in high summer there is usually enough for visitors to walk on. It remains one of the less visited high points in the valley.

Duke Kashmir Travels, registered with the J&K Department of Tourism as JKTA00003978 since 2011, includes the southern passes on longer Kashmir itineraries. Packages start near ₹6,350 per person, twin sharing.

Key takeaways

  • About 12,500 feet at the top, with much of the pass in Kishtwar district.
  • 132 km from Srinagar and about 80 km south of Anantnag.
  • Links the Breng valley with Kishtwar on the far side.
  • Snow persists on the crest through most of the year.
  • Little developed, so quiet compared with Gulmarg or Pahalgam.
  • Margan Top is the other high crossing nearby.

What is there to see?

A long view over the forested Breng valley on one side and the Kishtwar ranges on the other, with snowfields at the crest.

Visitors stop for the snow as much as the view: at this height there is usually some to walk on well into summer. There are no facilities beyond seasonal tea stalls near the top.

When can you cross?

Roughly late May to October, depending on snow clearance. The road shuts for the winter.

Some trekkers use the pass on foot, though it is a gentler route than the well known Kashmir treks. Weather can close it at short notice even in season.

How do you reach Sinthan Top?

From Srinagar through Anantnag and the Breng valley, about 132 kilometres in all.

It is a full day from Srinagar and a shorter run from Kokernag or Daksum, which is where most guests stay. See Kashmir tour ideas for itineraries that reach south Kashmir properly.
