Yousmarg is 47 km from Srinagar, roughly two hours by road through Chadoora and Charar-i-Sharief. It is a day trip rather than an overnight, as accommodation on the meadow is limited.
The name comes from a local tradition associating the valley with Jesus, and it has been used for the meadow for generations. It appears in tourist literature as Yusmarg or Yousmarg interchangeably.
